Ohio Watercraft Registration

Ohio Registrations are required for every recreational boat in Ohio, including, canoes, kayaks, pedal boats, rowboats, racing shells, rowing sculls, and inflated boats, as well as paddle boards.

Registration Options for Hand-powered Vessels

Traditional Registration for Hand-powered Vessels 

Boat registrations cost $20.  Registrations are valid for three years and expire on March 1. Two decals provided; boat owner supplies Ohio numbers. For additional information, please visit: watercraft.ohiodnr.gov/registration

Alternative Registration for Hand-powered Vessels  

All non-motorized rowing shells, racing sculls, canoes, kayaks, rowboats, and inflatables are eligible for this option. The Alternative Registration costs $17 plus a $3 writing fee plus a $5 waterway conservation fee, for a total of $25 for three years. You will not need to purchase or apply "OH" numbers if you have an Alternative Registration. One decal provided and no Ohio numbers required.
